In 2009, a major transformation occurred as Omni Resources went from having a single owner to being an employee-owned company with over 100 owners. All innovation starts with the spark of an idea.
For Omni Resources, the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) buyout was that spark. It ignited a fire inside the new employee-owners. The team now feels more empowered and 100 percent responsible for the future of the organization.
As we looked to the future, we needed to find a way to build a sustainable company in the face of the constantly changing and evolving world of technology.
Omni is set up as an ESOP – which stands for “Employee Stock Ownership Plan.” This is essentially a kind of employee benefit plan, similar in some ways to a profit-sharing plan. In Omni’s case, the ESOP is completely funded by the company – in other words, employees do NOT contribute any of their own money to the Plan. Shares are distributed to employee-owners over time.
